With the release of Baz Luhrmann’s take on the famous Fitzgerald classic, 2013 was been a year in which the spotlight has fallen once again on The Great Gatsby. Lurhmann’s take used contemporary tunes twisted into 1920’s charlston-dance melodies to drag it into the 21st Century to so-so reviews. Dragging it into the 1980’s might be an easier task.

The Great Gatsby for the NES is an online game of the movie, pixelated, and painted with an 8-bit soundtrack that’ll have you looking for mushrooms and italian plumbers everywhere. Jump across balconies, ambush snooty waiter’s with a boomerang hat and make your way through the decadent 20’s NES-style. It may not the acting chops of Leonardo DiCaprio, but it is a whole lot of fun.

Searching the site for it’s origin, there’s a tall tail about this being found at a yard sale, but don’t buy into it for second. Flimshaw Industries are behind this game, Created by Charlie Hoey and Peter Malamud Smith, it’s success (over 10,000 likes on Facebook) are inspiring them to make more games in the future.
